Cleaning

You can easily clean your electric trolley yourself and we advise that you do so fairly regularly to maintain the trolley in a good condition. There are a few areas to concentrate on :
The front wheel and the build up of grass and mud lodged in the wheel housing behind the wheel and towel fibres around the axle.
The main side wheels where mud and grass collect around the wheels and across the tyres and also towel fibres around the axle.

It is advisable to not use a hose or any power washer on your trolley as water  may seep into the electrical system. Simply bucket filled with warm water and washing up liquid and a sponge with a rag or towel to dry will always produce a worthwhile result.

Charger

The charger is generally a smallish black box,  supplied with your trolley to charge up the battery.  The charger plugs into the mains at one end with the other attaching to the battery terminals.
Most have a red light to show the battery is charging  at full voltage output (bulk charge) with a green  light to show it’s dropped to a low voltage output (float charge) and the battery is ready for use. Some chargers may also have a yellow light to indicate nearly charged.
The most common fault with a charger is when the voltage output malfunctions and causes the battery to prematurely deteriorate. This is not easy to identify as the lights on the charger normally still function.

The answer is to have your charger periodically tested (Golf Trolley Garage have the neccessary equipment), also to purchase a new charger if yours is over 4 years old.

Axle Pin

A small problem that we have come across over the years…..
The trolley is connected to the battery and switched on, The motor starts and turns the gearbox only for the trolley to remain stationery……

Not always but sometimes all that has been required to fix this problem has been axle pins. They can break through wear but also because of the strain and I have known for one to fall out.

Battery Connector

If the battery connector needs to be replace this can be done very easily by following our instructions below.  The connector will be held in place by two nuts and bolts, one on each terminal with washers on. You will need a spanner and Phillips screwdriver to take off the connector, start on the positive side undo the bolt and take out then detach from the terminal then do the same on the negative side. Clean the top of the terminal by using a file or wire wool so that the terminal has a corrosion free connection once it’s all put back together. Attach the new connector by attaching with the washer, nut and bolt in reverse order from before and starting on the positive side. Tighten up then do the negative and if the new connector has a fuse double check it is ok then connect up with the battery and do a check to make sure it works.

Very important that the red wire and black wire are connected as they were- red to positive and black to negative (normally) so that this matches the motor connectors and in turn the right power through the control box otherwise the control box is prone to being blown, An expensive job and unnecessary if procedures have been followed.

Powerbug Push Trolley

We love the Powerbug Push 2.0 ,It uses the same frame construction and layout as their electric trolleys without the motorizes parts. You'll see that the battery has been replaced by an insulated zip-up bag, great for storing a drink, your mobile phone and other items while out on course and the motor and gearbox have been taken away for an easy-roll free moving axle.
An ideal push trolley if you don't want an electric trolley or as an added trolley for when you're feeling a bit fitter :-)

Batteries

Recently we have had customers in with problems with their batteries, either they are not lasting a full round or not working at all. We have to explain that it's not always the battery that was at fault as sometimes the charger could be the culprit so don't go out buying a new battery with out checking first. Secondly think about the price you are paying for that battery if do do and get one, is it really cheap ! As like most things you get what you pay for, Is it up to the job ? Is it suitable for golf trolleys ? What about after sales care ? The warranty ? We only sell batteries that are purpose made for electric golf trolleys and similar motorized vehicles and you have a place to come back to should you have any queries, so no hassle posting anything or waiting in for a parcel and along with that we can have a look at your charger and give you our expert opinion.
So for now bear these things in mind and feel free to come in and ask any questions.

Control Box and Circuit Board

Our first little article tonight is regarding the control box or controller. The control box is the brains of the golf trolley and its purpose is to regulate the speed and power from the battery to the motor via the potentiometer. The control box is not to be confused with the potentiometer, which is located in the handle. It is essential that when you are connecting the battery to the control box that you do not reverse the polarity as in most cases this will result in damage to the control unit.

The second item regards the circuit board which is linked to when you alter the speed and distance in the handle. If you have a digital trolley and lose the display on the handle together with lack of power to the motor it is likely that the circuit board in the handle has developed a fault. This may be down to a loose connection but in most cases the circuit board needs replacing and if you let us do the work we will also check the other wiring and potentiometer to make sure it’s all ok.

If you require any further information then don't hesitate to email us at info@golftrolleygarage.co.uk and we will endevour to help you.

Battery

Today the phone rang with a customer who had a problem with two batteries that were intermittently losing power, They went on to add that they also had two chargers. They advised that either battery would have been charged with either charger as they did not keep them in specific pairs.
We requested that they bring in all the items for testing which resulted in:
One battery and one charger being faulty
The other battery and charger were ok.

We always recommend that if you have two batteries and two compatible chargers then keep them in designated pairs like colour coding them or labelling.  If battery faults arise in the future then you will know which pair are at fault and require testing.

HillBilly

A customer came in complaining that his Hillbilly Compact Plus was making a ‘terrible’ noise from the gearbox area. We isolated the problem to the motor which we removed and stripped down and upon examination we found one of the lugs on the base plate had fractured and sheared off and was still attached to the motor retaining bolt which screws in to it. Because the bolt was no longer attached it was hanging freely within the motor and causing the noise.

The answer to the problem was to thoroughly clean the motor internals, tap and drill a new thread in to the baseplate and re-assemble the motor with a new and longer retaining bolt.

Battery Testing

Your battery can be prone to failing ie not lasting 18 holes and sometimes no power at all although none of these problems happen until the battery is at least two years old. Do not presume that the battery is the issue if you experience one of these problems as the charger could be at fault so we at GolfTrolleyGarage offer a battery test to get to the route of the problem. We are authorised by the main brands to test your battery on our top of the range testing equipment, we can provide a read out of the results and the battery has a full cycle test to ensure you get the right result. Once we have got our results we can then inform and advise you of the next step and curse of action. We can also tell you how to look after your battery and keep it in tip top condition and thus ensure it lasts the maximum amount of time.
We sell batteries and will only use the brands that we think stand up to the rigorous tests the trolley gets and offer good value for money, it’s in our interest to make sure you go away with a good product and not keep coming back with faulty ones !!!!

So come and see us or get in contact to find out what we offer.
